Affinity

In a divorce or family law case, affinity can be defined as any legal or blood relationship formed through the union of two spouses at the time of marriage. Basically, this will entail an affinity will be formed when relationships, legally speaking, are formed with in-laws at the time of a marriage. At the time of death or divorce from the individual that formed the blood relationships or affinity, the affinity is typically said to terminate. In the event of a divorce case, once the divorce is settled, the affinity between one spouse and their in-laws is terminated, thus allowing the spouse to marry or engage in sexual relations with these individuals without fear of violating local or state incest statutes.
