Alabama Child Support Guidelines

Unlike many other states, the Alabama child support guidelines are based on a fixed table of payments. This table simply asks the non-custodial parent to calculate their monthly gross income and then use the table to determine their monthly obligation. There are limits, however, and anyone earning less than five hundred and fifty dollars will have their monthly obligation determined by the courts. All other income amounts are based on five hundred and fifty dollars and higher, and are broken down into fifty dollar increments. Additionally, the non-custodial parent must also pay more each month for each additional child. For example, the parent earning four thousand dollars each month would pay five hundred and forty-six dollars for a single child, eight hundred and forty-nine for two and over one thousand dollars for three.

Fast Facts

  • Although Alabama child support guidelines follow a fixed table, there are additional payments for custodial parents who must utilize day care in order to earn a living.
