Alimony Guidelines

Alimony, or spousal support, is a financial obligation in which a former spouse offers to the other spouse. These funds are separate from any child support involved, and are designed to cover basic household living expenses. Spousal support is typically sought from the greater income earner and is designed to prevent a drastic drop in household income or lifestyle in the event of a divorce. Temporary alimony is typically offered during the period of time in which the divorce is being finalized and is considered separate than the alimony which becomes part of the final divorce decree. A divorce attorney will partner with the individual to help them determine and negotiate a fair alimony payment option during divorce proceedings. While every effort will be made to resolve this matter out of the family court system, it is not uncommon for complicated and high net worth cases to appear before a family court judge for consideration and ruling.
