Annulment Process

Couples who intend to file for an annulment of their marriage, are hoping that with approval to strike the marriage from all legal records. An annulment makes a marriage as if it never occurred. The marriage must fall within the respective state's guidelines for approval by the courts. There are several possible grounds for an annulment, including: Incest- The parties of the couple are related; Bigamy- Either spouse is still legally married to another party; Unlawful Contact- The marriage license or certificate was obtained in an unlawful manner; Unlawful Age- One or both parties was under the legal age required for a marriage to occur; Unsound Mind- One or both parties was of unsound mind to make the decision to enter into a marriage: Force- One of the parties was forced to enter into the marriage contract: Fraud- The consent to marry was obtained under the circumstances of fraud. One or both parties to the marriage must file for an annulment within their state of residents, citing reasons and evidence if available for consideration by the court.
