California Summary Dissolution

Although deciding to get divorced is never easy, there are some options that limit the amount of time, number of court dates and total expense for a divorce. In California, summary dissolution is a common option among those who are handling their divorce on their own or under amicable circumstances. In fact, California summary dissolution cases allow the couple to complete the court documents, but never set foot in a court house. By filling out the appropriate documentation and meeting the established requirements, the couple will be able to legally dissolve their marriage quickly and without a great deal of time. The requirements are inflexible and include limits on the duration of the marriage, assets, and property. There can also usually be no offspring, excessive debts or demands for support. Both parties must sign a property agreement which divides assets and debts evenly. After filing for a California summary dissolution the couple has a six month waiting period during which time they can end their petition, or simply wait for it to be approved.
