When child custody is being filed for, the couple's attorney will prepare and file forms with the court, or in the event that the couple is working ﾑpro se', they will prepare and file them on their own. Many couples prepare and agree on child custody terms without the intervention of the family court system. But, in the event that the couple cannot agree to child custody terms, they will prepare and file a case with the family court system. Once a judge awards custody, final papers will be executed and provided to the couple, outlining the terms of the agreement. Child custody terms can be changed in the future in the event that something material changes within the household. In the event of a change, the couple will need to notify the court so that the child custody papers may be modified.
