Child Custody Support

Child custody and support are some of the more contentious issues involved in legal separations and divorces. This is especially true in situations where one parent believes the other is unfit to raise a child. In some instances, an ex-spouse simply wishes to extract revenge on the other over past conflicts. In such cases, the non-custodial parent (NCP)may go to court to dispute child custody. Support is closely linked to the custody issue since the parent raising the child is usually granted the ability to collect child support from the non-custodial parent. Even though the support is paid to the custodial parent or primary caregiver to cover a portion the expenses related to raising the child, some NCPs do not wish to pay. Such individuals believe they should not have to support a child unless they receive their desired custody arrangements. However, failure to pay court ordered support is a violation of the law. This can result in fines and other punitive action on the part of the state against the non-custodial parent.
