Child support services are offered by each of the states. It is a federal law that each state provides a child support enforcement agency that helps custodial parents, free of charge, to establish paternity, establish and enforce child support orders, establish and enforce medical support orders, collect and distribute child support and try to retrieve arrears of child support that was awarded and never received. The child support enforcement agencies also help custodial parents to enforce child support orders that were established without of the agencies help in prior court proceedings. This is a valuable service and it is advisable that all parents take advantage of this service. Again, it is free of charge as it is funded by the federal government and by the state governments. There are other companies out there who offer child support services; however you will usually have to pay a fee to obtain their services unlike that of the state child support enforcement agencies. The agencies also offer services that will allow you to take the non-custodial parent back to court to get a redetermination on a previous support order to either raise or lower the child support payments that you are now receiving.
