A child support worksheet is a state-specific set of questions and answers used to determine the amount of child support owed by the non-custodial parent. Each state abides by their own significantly differing rules regarding the assessment of child support amounts, and these worksheets are the basis of determining the amount. In all cases, family court judges have the right to deviate from the outcome of the child support worksheet if it is deemed in the best interest of a child. Many child support arrangements do not adhere to the child support worksheet, unless a court mandates the non-custodial spouse to do so.
