Collect Child Support

Each state manages child support payments differently. Child support is mandated by the family courts. Some states mandate that the parent pay the custodial parent directly via payroll deductions, while others allow the custodial parent to pay directly via check, cash or money order on an ongoing basis. Most custodial parents prefer an automatic payment plan as it reduces the opportunity for a default on the payment. In the event that a parent does not pay their child support as required, the custodial parent has the right to seek a remedy. It is first recommended to discuss the issue with the parent directly. In the event that this discussion does not result in a solution, you have the right to involve a mediator or the family court. There are several options available for collecting unpaid child support, including taking the other party to court, requesting an automatic payroll deduction program where available or even seeking a financial judgment of the former spouse's assets.
