Divorce Rate

Divorce rates are basically a record of the divorces that have taken place either in a particular jurisdiction, state or country. Not all states keep records of the divorces that have taken place and therefore some cannot give divorce statistics. Divorces rates can be reported as annual per capita, raw numbers or future predictions. The military actually reports their own divorce rates. The military even reports divorce rates by service, for example, the army, the navy, the air force and so on; and they also report their divorce rate by male and by female.

Fast Facts

  • States with a waiting period usually have a lower divorce rate. In 2007, the U.S. divorce rate was 0.36%. The divorce rate is only for the states that keep track of their numbers. If they don't report in, there is no way of determining the actual divorce rate in America.
  • Military divorce rates continue to rise over previous years. The military divorce rate was 3.4% in 2008, up from 2007 and 2006. Military women tend to get divorced at a rate that is more than double that of military men.
  • Around 25% of all adults have had at least one divorce during their life.
