Domicile

Domicile is a legal term used to define the primary jurisdiction and place of residency of a given spouse or children. An individual may only retain one place of as a domicile, though they may have several houses. Children are legally required at birth to obtain the domicile of their biological parents for legal purposes, and may elect to revoke this at a later date. Matrimonial law also takes into consideration domicile when deciding jurisdiction for divorce proceedings, as well as any other divorce related decisions such as division of assets, child custody, and alimony arrangements.
