Although some family law forms may be filed without the assistance of a lawyer, the court's filing fees still apply. Some forms such as motions, petitions, and complaints must not only be filed with the court but also served to the other party who will be affected. There are additional fees associated with having the Sheriff's office or a private process server perform this function. Some family law forms can be served via certified mail.
