Family Mediation

When there is an issue that cannot be resolved among the family members, family mediation may become necessary. Psychologists, social workers and other professionals are usually mediators. These mediators do not take sides nor do they make any decisions. Also, they are not in a position to give legal advice. It's advisable to seek the assistance of a lawyer before meeting with a mediator. This is helpful as it always useful to know your rights and obligations, prior to mediation. Mediation can be very beneficial for both parties in cases of divorce, custody disagreements and other legal issues. Mediation can eliminate the need for court hearings, but not for the need of an attorney. The mediator (who may be an attorney) will work with both parties to come to an agreement that benefits both. Once the mediator helps the parties to get to this agreement, they will then have the option to take the agreement to an attorney who will make sure that everything is fair and will then help with the legal filing.
