These mediators do not take sides nor do they make any decisions. Also, they are not in a position to give legal advice. Mediation can be very beneficial for both parties in cases of divorce, custody disagreements and other legal issues. Mediation can eliminate the need for court hearings, but not for the need of an attorney. The mediator (who may be an attorney) will work with both parties to come to an agreement that benefits both.
