Filing for a Divorce

When a couple decides to file for a divorce, they will need to follow the individual rules and guidelines as set out by their respective state of residence. In the event that the divorce is a no contest divorce, the couple can simply download and fill out the appropriate forms from their family courts for submission. Once the divorce paperwork has been filed with the court, the couple must wait for the required waiting period, then upon the court's approval, the divorce will be finalized. If the couple cannot come to agreement regarding the terms of the divorce, they must either hire a mediator and/or an attorney to work through the negotiations. If negotiations are unsuccessful, the couple will appear in family court before a judge. The judge will render decisions in regard to the terms of the divorce and will enter the final decree into record.
