Florida Family Law

Florida family law governs such processes as divorce, division of property, and child custody. The family court system can also appoint legal guardians for minor children, determine paternity, and handle issues surrounding adoption. The Florida family law website makes forms available from section 12 of the Florida Rules of Court. These can be used by citizens who wish to represent themselves before the court with little or no assistance from an attorney. The state of Florida has a provision for a simplified dissolution of marriage. This is a straightforward process by which a married couple can get divorced with minimal court involvement. It is reserved for spouses who have no minor children and who have come to an agreement about an equitable division of debts and assets before the petition is filed. This form cannot be used if the wife is pregnant at the time the divorce is requested.
