Joint Custody Agreement

Although the idea of divorced parents sharing every decision about their children and having them residing in their homes for an evenly divided amount of time sounds like an ideal resolution to custody, it is often totally impossible and even a bit unhealthy for the child who is bounced from place to place on a regular basis. This is something usually called joint custody, but a joint custody agreement usually describes the arrangement as "joint legal custody". This is the way in which both parents still have legal custody of their child or children and are involved in all decisions about their welfare and day to day life, but it spares the child from having to reside in two different homes throughout the year. A joint custody agreement will simply provide parents with an equal "say" in their child's upbringing, but describes which of the two parents the child lives with for the majority of the time. A joint custody agreement allows a child to attend a single school and enjoy a stable lifestyle without losing access to either parent.
