Paternity

Paternity is related to fatherhood. When paternity is being established, it is to find out who the biological father is. A paternity law suit can be filed by a woman to establish that a certain man is the biological father of her child, generally because she is seeking child support from him. When trying to establish whether a man is the father of a child, the court will take into consideration whether or not the man claims to be the father. It he does, and then no blood tests are required. If a man refuses to claim the child as his, the court can make him take a blood test, in which they try to match his DNA with that of the child's and paternity can be established that way. Most states require that the DNA tests used have 99% accuracy when trying to establish the father of the child. DNA typing allows the exclusion of an alleged father to be 100% accurate. The judge's decision in the paternity suit is the final decision.
