Summary Dissolution

Similar to a summary divorce, a summary dissolution is the termination of a marriage, but without a single court appearance. A summary dissolution is not as widely offered throughout the states as other divorce options, and it has fairly rigid guidelines that all couples must meet before they can choose to follow this route. For instance, there can be no children from the marriage, it must be of a duration of less than ten years, residency requirements will apply, no real property can belong to the couple, personal property and assets must be below set levels (which vary by state), debts must be less than a certain amount, no demands for spousal support must exist, no orders of restraint or other abuse prevention actions must be in place, and all other belongings or debts must be divided agreeably. Some states have further requirements, but if a couple is splitting amicably and can make such arrangements, they can spare themselves the upset of attending court proceedings.
