Texas Paternity

Paternity is a crucial factor when requesting child support, child support and visitation rights during a divorce case, during a separation or when a child is born out of wed-lock. If there is any question about the paternity of a child, the parent can request and file a paternity suit with their respective family court. While cases can be resolved in the family court system, paternity issues can also be settled independently between the two parties involved through a paternity test and negotiations with or without a mediator. When a Texas paternity test comes back positive, the mother has the right to seek financial support in the form of child support and discussions regarding child custody and visitation can begin if desired.

Fast Facts

  • A paternity suit can be filed at any time before the child turns the age of 18. If the parties involved do not agree to a paternity test, the court can order one to be completed.
