I want to file a divorce but do not want to go through a long court process. Is there an easy and fast way to divorce?

Is it possible to file for a quick divorce in California without all the problems and long legal delays?

What you’re looking for is known in California as a summary dissolution. A summary dissolution is designed to be a quick and efficient means of obtaining a divorce. However, not all couples qualify for Summary Dissolution. To qualify, the couple must

1) have no children together,

2) have been married five years or less,

3) don’t owe very much,

4) don’t own very much,

5) don’t want spousal support from each other, and

6) already have plans in place for separation of belongings and debt for one another when the marriage is ended.

Although the method is fast, as there are no lawyers or judges involved, summary dissolution is not always recommended. The primary reason is that you may lose rights that you were entitled to and didn’t know about, and once the proceeding is completed, it is usually not allowed to be reopened.

At the very least, it is important that you speak with an experienced divorce attorney who can provide advice on whether or not you should proceed with a summary dissolution or opt for the normal dissolution of marriage.
