If my husband and I have several disagreements on Child Custody and separation of Assets, do we both have to hire a Lawyer? Can we still divorce without the assistance of a Lawyer?

Individuals are not required to use attorneys to file for divorce. If both parties have resolved such issues as the division of assets and child custody, the court will not require you to have an attorney to complete the divorce proceedings.
However, even if individuals believe they have reached an agreement regarding issues such as child custody and the division of assets, disagreements often occur before the process is resolved. Also, attorneys are familiar with your state’s laws in these areas and can ensure your interests are fully represented. So, while it is not required to have an attorney to complete divorce proceedings, if children and/or sizable assets are at issue, it is often helpful to at least speak with an attorney before trying to resolve the matter on your own.
