What are the requirements and fastest way possible to Divorce in Nevada?

My wife and I have decided that we want to end our marriage, it is a mutual decision, and things are friendly.  Now that we have made the decision, we want to get it over as soon as possible.  A friend told me we could get divorced quickly in Nevada, but that is a quite a distance from where we live, what is the quickest way to divorce?

It is true that Nevada has the shortest residency requirements of any of the states; you only have to reside in Nevada for six weeks before you can file a divorce petition.  Either you or your spouse would have to move to Nevada to accomplish this.  It may not be necessary to leave your home state to divorce quickly.  If you and your wife have been living in the same house but not having sexual relations you could consider your separation date as the date you stopped being intimate.  Since you indicate you and your wife are having a friendly divorce, you can file on no fault grounds.  These two factors can significantly shorten the divorce process.  Finally if you and your wife sign a separation agreement indicating how property, debts, and custody and support are being handled if applicable, this will also speed up the divorce.

You should consult with a lawyer experienced in family law issues in your state.  He or she can advise you on the separation requirements, assist with the drafting of a separation agreement, and advise you on whether you should be considering the next plan to Nevada.
