Spousal Support

Many important issues come up during a divorce, one of which is spousal support, often known as alimony.  Spousal support is defined as “payments or transfers of money or assets from one spouse to another after a divorce.” Generally, spousal support is used to prevent a divorced spouse from suffering from a decrease in their standard of living since often times one spouse has been out of the workforce for a long enough time to render them uncompetitive in job search and unable to maintain a similar standard of living as before. It is important to have a divorce lawyer represent you in the divorce court during these disputes as to ensure that you are fairly awarded what should be yours and not give up anything unnecessarily.
